One of the benefits of Mendeley is its use in Microsoft Word to automatically create in-text citations and bibliographies. You can then choose what journal style you want from a drop-down menu so that your citations and bibliography are formatted to be the style of that journal.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most common journals transportation engineers submit to is the Transportation Research Record (TRR), the journal produced from Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting papers. In Mendeley, however, there is no style set for TRR. Thus I created a style, called a CSL file, to be used in Mendeley for TRR papers\u00a0, following\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/onlinepubs.trb.org\/onlinepubs\/am\/infoforauthors.pdf\">the rules on the TRB website<\/a>. Below are instructions on how to use it in Word for yourself (taken from the<a title=\"Mendeley instructions on how to upload CSL files\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.mendeley.com\/research-tutorials\/howto-edit-citation-styles-for-use-in-mendeley\/\">Mendeley blog instructions<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>First, here is the file zipped:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ite.ce.gatech.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/trr.zip\">TRR CSL File for Mendeley<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unzip the file and copy it into the following directory (on your PC): \u00a0C:\\Users\\&lt;user-name&gt;\\AppData\\Local\\Mendeley Ltd\\Mendeley Desktop\\citationStyles-1.0<\/p>\n<p>Restart Mendeley Desktop. Select \u201cView\u201d &gt; \u201cCitation Styles\u201d &gt; \u201cMore Styles\u2026\u201d and search for \u201cTransportation Research Record\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The style is now able to selected in Word.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Disclaimer: The CSL file does not automatically do the excessive citation style that TRB suggests for its own TRR papers, but rather treats TRR papers like all other journals.
